Artist Statement

As an observer and avid lover of nature, I understand the importance of respecting and examining the ‘natural world’, and those parts of nature which remain unmolested by mankind.

In my ardent observations of botanics and leaves, the architecture of veins and wrinkles, each one is their own conversation. They are unique, diverse and present in nature’s tapestry.

My paintings and sculptures respectively exploit both their form and function by drawing the viewer into exploring minute and intricate details most people glaze over.  Mimicking seamless and velvety flowers requires the painting surface be rigorously prepared with multiple coats of gesso and background paint.  This process often requires sanding as an additional technique for a softer gaze.  I love feeling the creation as my brush glides, as if part of the silky petals. These experiences evoke a psychological appreciation, reflecting a delicate strength.
